Egg tempera on linen laid onto board
24" x 24" (61 x 61 cm)
This is an unashamedly nostalgic image of a scene which wouldn't have looked much different 150 years ago (the cricket club was founded in 1833). The picture only occupies the central portion of the canvas and I experimented with making the squares form a starburst effect. From a distance it's the most prominent feature of the painting, quite an optical maelstrom. It feels like you're rushing towards or away from the scene in an accelerated passage of time.
